Minnesota Public Radio’s “Troubadour Program” includes a stop at Sacred Heart Music Center this year! The concert series is intended to enrich the region’s everyday culture through live song, with a renowned vocalist traveling to venues throughout Minnesota. This season’s performer is Jearlyn Steele, a regular on “A Prairie Home Companion.”
Steele is an accomplished singer, who has also sung on recordings by George Clinton and Prince. Her family gospel group, The Steeles, is a favorite regionally and stars in the annual Steele Family Christmas. The Steeles have even performed at Carnegie Hall. Despite all the traveling and singing, Steele hasn’t had the chance to share her talents in person right here in greater Minnesota—until now. Steele, along with her brother Billy on piano, will be performing “Songs from A Prairie Home Companion,” at Sacred Heart.
“That’s important—taking the music to people so they can hear and experience it,” Steele says. “Performers today like to break it down and do very intimate venues. That’s when we are at our best: raw, vulnerable and pure in the moment.”
