Inukshuk Pass is partnering with The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon to provide a magical evening of inspiration. Much like a night on the brisk northern trails that John Beargrease himself traveled, Inukshuk Pass provides an experience of determined and heartfelt storytelling and music that is like a blast of fresh air. They consistently leave their listeners with a lasting feeling that anything is possible. Your participation in this event will not only provide funds for the marathon but will also charge you with increased hope and resiliency in your own life. The acute listener often finds healing and redemption in the content of the songs and in the energetic and sincere way the songs are delivered.
With her roots running along the North Shore of Lake Superior, singer-songwriter Patti Ryan has been inspired and driven to write a song specifically in honor of John Beargrease and the dogs and mushers of the annual Marathon. The song, “Travel Me On”, captures the magic found on the trail and quickly connects with the hearts of the adventurous and the people of this region. The band will take you through Beaver Bay, Grand Marais and the Sawtooth Range as you near the exhilarating finish of finding yourself along the path you travel.
The members of Inukshuk Pass have traveled a lifetime together. If you get the feeling that they have been friends for a very long time, you are right. Bass player Paul Weyandt and guitar player Mark Martin have been friends and making music together since their early childhood. Patti Ryan met the two in their high school band room and ultimately married Paul. The three were delighted when Dave Degennaro joined the group in 1991 to complete the group and bring the music to what it is intended to be. After several years of performing as a cover band, the four decided in 2008 to focus their energy on this original project. Together they arrange and produce every song, concert and album. You can’t help but feel the love they have for one another. The chemistry they create fills a room and pulls the concert crowd in and along for the experience. They will premier their song, Travel Me On, at this concert along with several other songs from their newest CD, “Don’t Look Down”. To compliment the songs, Patti creates an original oil painting to reflect each story. Prints of her paintings, including “Travel Me On” will be available at the concert. Touring Minneapolis based singer songwriter Sarah Pray, will open the night with an acoustic set of her original songs.
